Ingredients

  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 pie crusts


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and place a rack in the center for even baking.
  2. Peel core and slice the apples then add them to a large bowl and toss with granulated sugar brown sugar flour cinnamon nutmeg salt and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9 inch pie dish pressing gently along the sides.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the crust and spread evenly then dot with butter for added richness.
  5. Cover with the second crust seal and crimp the edges and cut small slits on top to release steam.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling then cool for at least 2 hours before slicing for best results.
