Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans and line bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together 2 cups flour, 3/4 cup cocoa powder, 2 cups sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  3. Add 2 eggs, 1 cup vegetable oil, 1 cup milk, and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Mix until smooth. Slowly stir in 1 cup hot water or coffee until batter is thin and well combined.
  4. Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a rack.
  5. For frosting melt 1/2 cup butter with 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips. Stir in 1/2 cup heavy cream until smooth and thickened. Cool slightly then spread between layers and over cake evenly.
